The Johnson Society

The Johnson Society

Meetings: There is no set meeting date during the year. Our main event is the Birthday Celebration weekend which is held from the Friday-Monday in September nearest to Johnson’s birthday of 18th September. In addition the Society runs a series of lectures during the Winter months focussed either on Johnson or other notable figures of the 18th Century.
On March 2nd each year we hold a lecture about an aspect of 18th century life connected with Samuel Johnson
In Spring, or early Summer the Society will organise at least one trip to visit some place with a Johnsonian connection. Other events may be organised from time to time but on no regular basis.
Members also receive the Transactions, our annual report on the Society’s activities, which also includes articles relating to Johnson’s life, beliefs, literary works, friends and acquaintances.

Aims and activities:
The Societies aims are to: -
1 Encourage the study of, and further interest in, the life, works and times of Samuel Johnson
2. To assist in the preservation, maintenance, repair, restoration and enhancement of the contents of the Dr Johnson Birthplace Museum in Lichfield.
These are promoted by the activities listed above.
